The quality of the Abba songs given to Agnetha to lead were much more demanding vocally and she was stretched where Frida wasnt because she didnt have the range or height, Agnetha was far superior vocally x.

A pointless discussion going on here in my opinion. Both singers have amazing voices but are very different. Agnetha's fans will stick up for her and Frida's fans will come to her defence. Why not just love and respect both their qualities without the endless comparing? Peace! ; -)

CONT: But to portray Frida's live vocals as flawless (as many of her fans do) is inaccurate considering the proof is in the many bootlegs & some live recordings where she sounds "flat" or instead of belting the notes, does a quick flip into her head voice leaving Ags belting the blood out of her vocal chords (Listen to the chorus of any live version of THANK U FOR THE MUSIC). Frida's vocal forte differed from Ags. Both woman had different vocal ranges, timbre & style.

It's rather pointless bringing critics into this considering their opinions are just that, opinions & they also have their faves. How about the critic who wrote Frida's voice was "limited" & it was plainfully obvious on her record "There is Something Going On"? I guess when critics critique Ags it's the gospel, with Frida, they don't know any better? LOL. Anyhow even VH1 couldn't decide between the 2 when both Ags & Frida tied in ranking in the "Best Female Voices in Rock".

listen to agnetha sing 'thankyou for the music' live from switzerland and then you will hear the true voice. i feel her and whitney houston have the two best female voices !!
By: jazzbobrown. on 04 Nov 08, 21:25:59
Hehe -Ags reached higher on the register, but Frida did have a wider range. Do we have to bitch about this? Ags voice is clear, but she is best at singing sweet. Fridas chooling in jazz impro showed off in her tv debut and first recording session (done in one take). Fridas vocals on 'Real Group's acapella version of "Dancing Queen" was reportedly done in one take too, as was her vocals in the 'Barcarolle' duet with opera singer Filippa Giordani!

Hehe -wow- touchy, are we? I'm an Agnetha fan too, honey :) No, Frida did not compose (only four songs), but she did sing lead on "Fernando", which is ABBAs largest single success in Australia (where they were huge), and their 2nd largest single in Europe -and a bigger hit in Swedish (the swedish version credited to Frida solo-) than any of the other three members ever had. Fridas "Something's Going On" album and single sold more than any of Agnethas post-ABBA records.
By: jazzbobrown. on 04 Nov 08, 20:20:37
No doubt Agnethas voice is fantastic: her vocals are splendid on all her recordings -and she's a terrific songwriter. But she did sing flat: most of the reviews from her early years repeatedly mentions this (read the many swedish newspaper reviews in "ABBA The Book"); listen to her off pitch in "Hej Gamle Man" -listen to the live version of "Slipping Through My Fingers" or her singing on tv in 1985 ("Gäst Hos Hägge"). No offence, I'm her fan -but Frida is more a diverse singer.

And as an FYI, there is a HUGE difference between singing "out of tune" and being "flat". "Out of tune" is what you'd call William Hung. The only source I have read that Ags sang out of tune is from that awful book Dark Shadows but even Michael Tretow has called Ags voice "fantastic" & was awe struck at how she sang & how many voices she was able to sing in. There are far too many live versions of even the earliest ABBA hits, SOS, WATERLOO, RING RING & Ags voice is solid in all of them.
By: EnzFab73. on 03 Nov 08, 02:03:28
I have yet to hear a live version or a studio recording where Ags has sang out of tune. Sometimes her vocals fell flat but never out of tune & it happens to all singers live including Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler (sometimes too often) & even Frida. There is a live performance of Money Money Money where Frida's sounds incredibly flat not to mention several bootlegs where her voice sounds less than perfect.
By: EnzFab73. on 03 Nov 08, 01:53:51
Frida had a phenomenal hit with "I Think There's Something Going On" but overall, Agnetha had a more successful solo career even before ABBA. Before ABBA Ags had already scored a #1 hit in the Swedish charts & was even quoted as being "one of Swedens most popular singers" & the high pitched belt in a lot of ABBA's songs are mostly Ags. Just listen to the live versions of HOLE IN YOUR SOUL, GIMME GIMME GIMME & THANK U 4 MUSIC. Frida herself stated Ags had a "much higher voice".
By: EnzFab73. on 03 Nov 08, 01:49:02
CONT: They were both fantastic singers & Michael Tretow himself has stated Ags was a "fantastic" vocalist. Not to mention there are a couple of live performances where Frida's voice is far from perfect. Judging a singer on one or two live performances, especially from inferior bootlegs isn't really a good idea & it's rather unfair to the performer.
By: EnzFab73. on 03 Nov 08, 01:44:28
Yes but Frida had it much easier having to sing songs live that were far easier on the voice. Ags may have a wider range but constantly belting past your vocal range is excrutiating. I know someone who saw them live in 79 & he stated he was amazed Ags didn't loose her voice mid concert considering the high key her songs were set too & Ags has admitted that the nerves got the best of her in concerts while Frida was confortable on stage which is a factor Frida's fans always ignore.

nobody sings perfect.. I love the fragility and the reality in her live voice too. just thomas ledin's voice is a little too loud.. Frida has a wonderful and trained voice she can do everything but she don't have the sweet sound of agnetha.. they are both equally good but agnetha touches my heart more
By: juggluver69. on 29 Oct 08, 21:02:32
look up some of aggies videos inwhich she sings 'thankyou for the music'. that song hightlights her voice perfectly !!!!!
By: Milton9409. on 20 Oct 08, 18:43:37
The differens is that you can find several singers the has a similar voice as Frida, but only few that has such a high and strong voice as Agneta.
By: SallyWilliams. on 19 Oct 08, 05:53:24
although the perfect sound came from their combined voices and I really like them both, frida was the better vocalist, as you could notice in live concerts, and I saw them 3 times. you could hear that frida's voice had the better training. a soprano isn't better just because she can sing higher. and listen to this live performance here, it's not that perfect and strong.

It took both girls to make ABBA work
By: wywitr. on 26 Sep 08, 19:26:15
Agnetha was the most succesful solo, far more than Frida. Just look what happens these days..a new Greatest Hits album will be released..one of many while Frida´s songs have yet to see the first full price Greatest Hits cd. Agnetha is the icon of ABBA. The face and the voice. But that does not mean Frida was bad or worthless. But she is no compitition to Agnetha. Never was and never will be.
By: rexel666. on 25 Sep 08, 21:58:15
Agnetha could convey real heartbreak and fragility in her voice, whereas Frida was much more of a classically trained singer (I think she once even sang opera). Also, listen to 'Like an Angel Passing Through My Room'
By: GailMacFarlane. on 24 Sep 08, 14:11:46
I LOVE both Agnetha & Frida, their voices are perfect But it makes me mad to see everyone saying Frida isn't as good!!! Frida's voice has many layers to it,listen to a single note from both girls and Frida's voice has more to it. Agnetha has more range, but a lot of those high harmonies you hear and think are Agnetha, they are Frida. Out of all the solo albums Frida was more successful. I LOVE Agnetha, as a singer myself, I know how hard her vocals are...but Frida is not in second place!
By: marionette28. on 17 Sep 08, 13:04:19
I agree. Though, Frida had a very good voice as well, Benny/Björn could write brilliant songs (and that's by far more than any of us is able to do) but Agnetha could do both - that's what makes her so outstanding.
By: iamanabba. on 17 Sep 08, 09:15:47
I love Abba but Faltskog was by far the superior vocal wise of the singers in Abba her range was far wider being a soprano, her interpretation of the songs were brilliant she could cry with her voice and was a great actress in the Abba videos allround she was by far the best x.
By: iamanabba. on 17 Sep 08, 09:12:09
Jazzbrown, name Fridas 4 leads to Agnethas 12 with Abbas hits, and what outsold Agnetha singles and album solo, and what Frida composed, also vocal range being a mezzo soprano she has a much deeper voice and lower range, im a musician , u obviously havent a clue about music but are a Frida fan trying to justify her, its difficult isnt it very, Frida was the weakest member of Abba in my opinion the other 3 were musicians composers in there own right and were hugely successful before Abba.
By: marionette28. on 17 Sep 08, 08:58:17
What a beatiful song! A pity that it has never been published.
