Van Halen would not have been as successful without Dave. Yes Ed wrote the songs including the vocals melodies and Roth wrote the lyrics and sold the songs. Ed's brilliant but maybe so is Allan Holdsworth. Van Halen songs were a touch more meangingful with Hagar and in my opinion a bit better. Which singer you prefer is a matter of taste but Van Halen is done. To make music your heart has to be open. Taking Mike off the credits for songs and the website(until fans screamed)shows it's over.

As for the music it's a cover from something else (played in sports arenas all over, can't remember the title though) The lyrics are a tribute to MEX. Yes way, dude! Nobody is rewriting history here. Montrose was actually led by guitarist Ronnie Montrose (hence the name) and he replaced Hagar with another singer. The band continued on playing foregettable music into the late '70's, while Hagar went solo and had a minor hit "Cruisin' & Boozin' - hence the reference in this TM song.

A brilliant tune. I read an interview where Sammy ranted and raved about this tune -- pissed him off big time. A small man with a fragile ego, living in the shadow of DLR. A footnote -- at best -- in the history of rock. Will be remembered for ruining Van Halen, ripping of Jimmy Buffett and writing lyrics that are atrocious even by pop standards (e.g., "Only time will well if we stand the test of time"). Of course, there's also the Nerf Herder tune making fun of him.

I saw these guys play at Go Save the Queen in LA in 1990. They were amazing, they did a version of the Stones "Miss You" with a horn player that rocked 10 times harde than anything the Stones ever did with it. The Club was a saturday night only thing in a chinese restaurant with Goth kids all wearing eyeliner, velvet, spilling budwiesers from Plastic Cups. These guys were awesome!

On top of that I did 64 logo's in 12 hours on video dancing on the screen to their song Cabo Wabo in 1990. They used 3 and only paid for one...so YouTube is the only place I can get my rep back... and maybe get Sammy to post that the logo was designed by Noel. Oh yea we had nothing binding they came to me through a Van's Tennis Shoe rep on a Friday evening and asked me to have a design by 8:00AM on Saturday for the MTV Contest Commercial go look at that YouTube post and you can see that logo.

I would never have signed it stating that Valerie's brother co-designed it if that promise never was put on the table. What it did was tarnish my rep, as you can see from the post people don't believe I did it and that they came to me. I thought verb contracts were binding also. As an artist having the credit for the Cabo logo or having VanHalen as a client would have been great for my career.
