My view is that the song is a metaphor, likening the imprisonment of a bug/insect in a jar to the restraints a woman could face with either an overprotective or abusive husband- possibly just an unhappy relationship where she wants to leave. The lyric 'He'll give you breathing holes' is extremely clever when you think about it that way. But as with all of Cobain's lyrics they are open to interpretation, and mine is just a personal view i'm sure there are others.
