The reason why I believe people enjoy this video is because they are like me. They have worked on countless problems involving and or and xor gates in Digital Electronics or other courses in school, and they find it funny how it can be represented through dominos. Its understandable that this isn't the most complicated design, but in this case it is receiving the attention because it is simply more creative. A bridge between dominos and the basis of computing, that's unique.

Popularity is only one of a number of criteria used to assign values to an object. You could for instance assess something for it's technical excellence or for it's historical significance, or perhaps for it's longevity. how many vids will survive for 100 years? It gladdens me that an intellectual subject should be seen more often. Also perhaps hits come from ppl looking for logic. The lesson here could be; make good meta data and title, relate in some interesting way to a larger community.

Although what you said makes sense, I believe that there are far better examples of simple experimenting than this- some of the things the guy was making were absurd and had no way of working. All I was saying is that doesn't deserve 150,000 views and all of the good feedback when there are are people who have put a lot more effort into their work and are getting 20 views- which isn't right.

I find this video very interesting and even important. In nature we have logical systems of all kinds. Understanding such things in their simplest form is the holy grail of physics. Here we see a thermodynamic system which consumes energy in simple steps which are accessible to geometric representation, performing computation. Just the observation alone can give one an insight into how freedoms in 3 space yields infons. with enough dominos you could build a computer or even a mind.

Its really all about the sounds for sure like he said. If you need any samples for your MPC or MV, I have over 1900 titles in all formats-akai-emu-wav-acid loops-etc and also 750gb hard drives full of sounds. If your not using Recycle, you'll have to take the audio region you want to chop, and chop it manually. Just throw it on an audio track and chop it up, save each file individually. Once you've done that, you can create a new instrument in EXS and Import multiple files. Once imported, they can be moved around to specific key, and parameters can be adjusted. I record my drumbeats by playing MPC type pads on my controller using EXS. For more detailed instructions on importing, manual should help

If you want to chop a drum loop into its beats and you use them in the EXS - 1) Get RECYCLE from PROPELLERHEADS and create a rex file. You can extract a midi file from this to trigger the slices. Then on the EXS options menu you can convert the REX into an EXS program. The Midi file will then trigger the slices in the EXS. There is more flexibility in this approach than using apple loops as you can use the EXS synthesis engine to modify the slices (envelopes etc) Hope this has been of help

you have to record them to WAV then click "edit" on the right then create new instrument. it takes time to map out the different pitches and how loud each sound is but it works well. i did it with a timpani for my music technology A-level piece.

worthlessdollar1, You're right. The sarcasm wasn't necessary. We'll see what happens with the price but I think this device could easily cost several hundred dollars and still sell relatively well. The people who will be worst hit by the recession aren't really the target consumers anyway. Smart people who read will still have jobs, mostly. Depending how much each person spends on newspapers and books this device could be a better investment. Also, I'm not an IT person.

They will not catch on with the public until they can be bought for under $40 - $50. If it costs anymore than that, people will be too afraid to carry them around on trains, buses etc. for fear of losing them. They're a fantastic idea though. I'm confident that when prices come down and a few problems are ironed out (such as slow page turning) their numbers will explode and soon people will wonder "how did I ever cope before?" - like the iPod. Advertisers will have a field day, too.

I know this is typical for such devices, but the time needed for switching to a new page seems very long. It feels like almost 2 seconds from touch screen input to the actual display of the next page. Sometimes when i am not searching for something specific i want to flip through the pages of a book quickly. This seems to be impossible - or at least it would take hours - with this device.

Very nice! I calculated the screen size. Body size in the release notes are 8.5" x 11.0" (216mm × 279mm). On my PC screen, body width=165mm and screen width=125mm. (body width):(screen width) 165mm:125mm = 8.5":6.44" = 216mm:164mm It looks bigger than A5, smaller than B5. This body flame looks like page margin very well, in order to the flat body. Therefore it will be acceptable for normal US-LETTER document which has a page margin. Celebration!

I just want to add that I love the WHOLE album! The whole album is a dance masterpieace considering the date it was released. Even the only ballad it has "You promissed me the world" is a great song. I have it in CD and it sound fantastic. Great sound quality of the samples and insturments. A++!

In the LEGO community we sometimes run something called the Great Ball Contraption (or GBC), which coordinates dozens of separate modules, but not as easily as this could allow. Wish LEGO would make something similar.

That's a nice description, although the pain of setting up all the dominos has got to be inhibiting. I've had some success with using marble-trigger flip-flops (I've got a YouTube video up of one design), but the asynchronous nature makes things a little difficult. What is the marble toy (brand name) that you use? Again, really nicely done.

OMG, I Just finally bought Recycle 2.1 a few days ago. It was delivered today and I just spent the last few hours making rex files out of my favorite breaks. I've now loaded up My EXS 24 in Logic 8 only to find ALL of the RECYCLE CONVERT OPTIONS are GREYED OUT! I can't drag and drop them in either. I'm really bummed. So, I just got logic studio and from using some low end programs, cool edit pro 2.0, cakewalk homestudio 8, acid pro, and some mid level ones, fl studio, cubase le 4 I can already tel that after one session that thos program is 100 times better. However, I do not have some of the baisic experience with cutting tracks and copying sounds, converting unique copies and all that fun stuff, do you have a baisic tips and tricks video? all of the ones i saw were more specific

The volume is attenuated by the patch setting. Go to the front panel and there is a slider next to the volume of the EXS. Not channel strip... the EXS setting. Turn this slider all the way up.

Reason allows you to 'Export Rex File and MIDI', but unfortunately, this is ONLY the MIDI file, and not the .rx2 file. Any file with .rx2 as a suffix will work fine, but if it's packed into, say, the reason factory library, it has to be extracted from the reFill. I'll upload a trick to use Dr. Rex with Logic.
