That's very true. Interesting to note, also, that Nyman's music for Draughstman's Contract and ZOO and Cook Thief, for examples, were written before any filming took place. That allowed Greenaway to fashion the image to the music. I had read he was actually disappointed in Drowning by Numbers because the filming took place first and Nyman "scored" it. I disagree though.

In Greenaway's films these tracks by Nyman conveyed an indescribable and yet dispassionate tragedy. PG fashioned A Zed and Two Naughts as if it were formally a comedy, with the twins finding consummation in suicide; and same with Drowning by Numbers, and certainly in The Cook, The Thief... And somehow I feel certain that Nyman's music fit the scheme of stymied forms--but ultimately with a gravity that sticks with you.

piano is the master instrument. other orchestral instruments play one part harmony, cello, violin, bass, etc. the piano requires mastery of two part harmony, much like one hand is the cello/violin, the other (left) being the bass. at least in most cases...

Serás del Avant-garde y te emocionara el golpe de cacerolas que conformaran la sinfonia absurda que existe.O un tipo frente al piano sin ejecutar ninguna obra.Esto es arte? O los concierto para piano de Rachmaninov,los de Ravel,Beethoven,Mozart,Grieg entre miles. Que Idiota eres, se nota que no conoces nada de música. El vuelo que tiene es comparable al de Elfman. Es simple basura posmoderna que mezcla. La idea musical hace muy monótona la música. Sólo compone cosas mediocres. Su concierto para piano es horroroso. No podría ni llegar al vuelo de sus contemporaneos como Britten o Stravinsky. Cuantas ópreas dio el minimalismo, cuantas sinfonias o requiem ? Nada importante.Y las producciones, como la sinfonia de Glass es mediocre.

I watched the movie the Libertine, and this song, was the best thing that I took back from the experience. But OH, what a song! This sad, solemn haunting song fills my dreams. But I really have to give applause to this singer, her rich, deep thick resonant mezzo soprano voice is so sumptuos and alluring, that I hope this exact version of this song plays at my funeral. For I would love to be remembered and cast off from the Earth with a song of utter perfection such as this!

Desde que vi la película esta canción ha significado mucho para mí, el potencial del ser humano no tiene límites, no hay que considerar nada imposible, si tenemos un sueño, un ideal hay que seguirlo sin importarnos las consecuencias. Muy bien interpretada señorita, tienes talento. Sed felices...todos somos vincent de una u otra manera...
