My father was going to be an airline pilot until a pilot talked him out of it!!!
By: InuKun2008. on 09 Oct 08, 17:31:13
Another thing they excluded is that military pilots these days would rather stay with the military since it's better pay and better benefits for them. As far as a degree, it tends to be used by major carriers simply as a way to reduce applications received by the airline when hiring. As there are more non-degree pilots than degree pilots, it reduces the number of applicants. Even more so with a Masters degree.
By: MajorYT. on 04 Oct 08, 07:02:26
Well said buddy! But only major airlines pay their pilots a lot.
By: kelvinfplatano. on 29 Sep 08, 09:30:21
this sucks a pilot should be paid as much as adoctor or any high paying job.. i think that if every pilot in the world would stop flying for a day..millions of people would me mad and appreciate more what it takes to be a pilot..man this sucks..the only proffecion i had on mind sucks
By: usapilot. on 09 Sep 08, 22:31:06
Don't become an Airline Pilot. What a big mistake. Flying planes is fun, but not worth it when it comes to stability and money. Do it as a hobby. I'm going back to school to be an engineer. Tired of the layoffs, the labor-management problems, and lack of a descent wage. The good times are gone (unless you are a 20+ year veteran at some major). The video is misleading.
By: bluemanor. on 04 Sep 08, 02:12:19
"They must be able to quickly make accurate decisions under pressure..." Hah - if that was true I wouldn't be in this god-awful industry to begin with! My first mistake in this profession was that of deciding to enter this profession! Do yourself a favor, fly planes for fun, not for a career! PS - this video is loaded with inaccuracies.

Hey that last pilot on the left looked like he was not in perfect condition :0
By: gnarkillkicksass. on 09 Jul 08, 22:00:30
Most pilots around the world who get paid US like in Hong Kong and Dubai are right now asking for money in a different currency. Places like that the cost of living is not low and without a pay rise in 5 years and a falling US dollar things are not all peachy as people think. I just think its weird how in global pilot shortages the US guys need 2000tt just for right seat of a metro and I heard that from a ex metroliner FO's I now fly with in PNG. I just don't think the degree helps overseas.
By: felix954. on 09 Jul 08, 20:13:53
How is that a joke? companys who think your good (and know you wont mess up) will pay you u.s type salaries in a country that cost half as much to live in. The only reason to say in the u.s is if you already have seniority if not you have more job security and earnings potential in most advanced or emerging country's.whether your a turbo prop guy or an airline pilot Other countrys have a "demand for pilots" whereas most u.s airlines are doing furlough, grounding planes and making captains FO's.

Glasses are accepted in civil aviation, like the "you have to be rich to do it" nonsense this is not true. you need 20/20 or need good enough eyes that glasses are able to correct it for 20/20. KLM requires a lot for you to partake in selection for sponsorship but aside from high math and physics, 20/20 eyesight without glasses is not one of them. Jus 20/20 with or without glasses. (Civil aviation mind you)

the only place in the world where u need a degree to fly a plane is the states. its a joke u wanna fly anywhere else, get a ATPL
By: solomonpilot767. on 26 Jun 08, 16:56:11
this video is old,u don't have 2 have20/20 vision please update this or rmve it!
By: felix954. on 18 Jun 08, 21:01:54
i think the pilots who cant get jobs are the ones without degrees or the one that don't want to move. my cousin has been a commercial pilot for 3 years and when he got his masters got a corporate pilot job in Brazil for 170,000 BRL which is around 100,000 u.s. If you start young there is no problem with making 20,000-30,000 your first couple of years, because you shouldn't have a family to support.
By: CostabileJAC. on 07 Jun 08, 07:19:10
Dont forget they take your pentions too
By: pablo2973. on 05 Jun 08, 20:41:09
Yeah , thats what happened in the 80´s ,now: no prestige,no 20/20,low salaries ,and fighter pilot faces lots of difficulties to find a job in commercial aviation because just to name 1 reason they are trained to work alone not within a team . Very misleading video for youngsters.
By: ScottDuch. on 05 Jun 08, 19:02:43
What a load of rubbish. I perosn who just got their ATPL is just as good as a fighter pilot as it's a brand new aircraft to both of them. Also you don't need 20/20 vision...Very misleading.
By: tavolandia. on 17 May 08, 14:35:54
Militar Pilots arent training for flight a civilian airliner jet. Fighters, for example, cant work in team like in a cockpit, they are use to work alone.
By: TheAeroman. on 11 Apr 08, 12:37:06
We don't do it for the "glamour". Money is a bonus.
By: peris666. on 07 Apr 08, 22:55:00
You´re right. No pilot in the WORLD is well paid. Besides... "glamour", maybe 50 years ago.
By: luukoutbelow. on 04 Apr 08, 21:36:17
HORSESHEET!!! haha, what a pot of crock
By: iflyacrj. on 01 Apr 08, 00:32:57
This video is BS. Pilots are no longer paid well. I make less now than what I did 10 years ago, and the cost of living as soared by over 50%.
By: avee8tor. on 31 Mar 08, 22:35:36
This has to be the biggest crock of BS I have seen for a longtime!! High pay and glamor - who are they trying to kid?? Not in the USA thats for certain. Many pilots at the regional level (even flying "higher paid jets" can almost qualify for food stamps! Go to one of these training centers and end up with a big student loan and don't earn enough to pay the loan. Sad but very true.
By: jaa93997. on 25 Mar 08, 22:28:56
piece of shit salary, us class II avionics engineers get less than that
By: birddoggarton. on 16 Mar 08, 16:53:43
It is frustrating. You hang in there and be safe. Happy Flying!
By: birddoggarton. on 16 Mar 08, 16:50:33
If I can make a suggestion to the rookies who wants to make this a carreer. Don't go to the schools. Save you money. You can do the same thing in your home town local airstrip. Keep adding the certificates and ratings to your license. Get as much as you can out of the way and then go to Orlando or Texas. What ever school is closest to you.1 more thing. Go with as less debt as you can because you will not make any money for a few long years. I don't care what the instructors say. have a gudun.
