For the record, the first 3:18 of this video is probably the best advice you could give a guiatar player, especially starting ones. Tone is in your hands, and gear only sounds as good as you make it. As for influence, he's on the money. Good stuff thanks man.

Great stuff!! Just one note though. SRV would use heavy gauge strings (12,13s) but he would tune his ax down a half step to relieve neck tension and make action more manageable. Awesome stuff nonetheless. Rock on!!!

Spent years using 9's, but switched to 11's for all my strats a few months back, much better control, was rough at first but hey no pain no gain. I have to tune eb though. Still use 9's on my les paul and feels like shit. would love to get rid of the LP but the guys in th eband prefer the sound for the rock stuff. If it was up to beit would be strats and 11's all the way. Gues I should leave th eband in a huff and start a new one ..LOL ut hey it helps pay the bills.

ghs boomers gbzwlo are standard 11-70 but i replaced the 11, 14, 18 gauge e , b and g strings with 15 for e and 18 for 22 for the g. heavy ass strings but the sound is very worth it

Overpriced? At the time I bought it, it was $749. It was a "REAL" Gibson LP. I didn't have to change pickups because it came with burstbuckers, and I didn't have to spend extra money for a hard case, because it came with it. Now my VM is going $999. Probably because it has become quite popular.

Hey, all. DCmey can stick with his (overpriced) Gibson if he likes. I've been playing for 26 years and I just sold a Dean LP copy and bought my own genuine Les Paul (Epiphone) which I love. If someone calls a Squire a Fender I would call it a copy. People were insistant that epiphones LP's weren't copie guitar. If you go o to Wilkepedia and scroll down you will see they make about 20 copies of Gibson guitars. It says the word COPY, it isn't a person expressing their opinion it's fact. Just to be clear if you prefer an epiphone over a Gibson, I don't have a problem with that.

You could use any amp really...the guitar is what gets your sound...the amp just amplifies it and maybe changes the tone that comes out...but the density of the wood is what gets you your sound.

Informative review! Very helpful. The thing is, though, the Epi LP is not a "copy" -- it IS a Les Paul, especially now that these are made in Gibson Corp.'s Chinese factory (rather than by Samick in Korea, like they had been).

I think this guy can play guitar well and he has the knowledge, but I feel his teaching method could improve if he relaxed more, took it slower, and did not jump around as much. Other than that, he is pretty good. He actually reminds me of some of my percussion instructors I've had in the past. His funk guitar lesson is the best. It seems to be his strong suit.

Do, rey, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do = c, d, e, f, g, a, b, c which is the C Major Scale. If you're wondering which frets the notes are played on, then you should look at a more basic lesson on music theory. The scale for all notes in western music is the Chromatic Scale: A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#. So, use it to find notes on the fretboard. If the top string open is E, then the 1st fret will be F, 2nd is F#, 3rd is G etc. Guitars play notes, not numbers! Don't rely on tabs, learn music.

What about the adjustable pole pieces on the PRS and LP. Also called a "tune-o-matic" bridge on the gibson. Also want to file nut for larger guage strings to prevent binding and tuning problems. good basic video. Im not being critical of it just throwing a few more items in the mix is all.

I know what you're talking about! Very frustrating! One more reason I'm using a PRS these days... There is a small right angled tool with a flat head screw driver on the end (or phillips depending on what bridge you have). Ask your local guitar tech - most of the time they'll either give you one or tell you where to get it. Good luck!

You have to adjust the springs hold the bridge to compensate for the string tension. Always change strings one at a time with Floyd Rose bridges. Will save you a major headache.

no it involves adding the 7th note of a major scale to a chord, like there's 7 notes in a scale with the 8th one being the octave (do re me fa so la ti do), well most common major chords combine the do (1st), the me (3rd), and the so (the 5th), but you can continue the pattern and add the ti (the 7th) to get a slightly different sounding chord
