Knopfler is not that underrated. Worldwide he's been considered one of the best guitarists around for many years. For what it's worth, Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists list placed Knopfler at 27th. I'd place him higher...for originality, creativity, musicality, and technique. Point is, Knopfler is very respected. And oh yeah, his songwriting is amazing and he sings really well. Talented fellow, that one.

Satriani is great, but his the music is totally different. Satch uses distortion, Mark tends to keep it clean -- you can hear each note, but this also means that gaffs are not masked by distortion. Also, Satch doesn't compose songs for lyrics and storytelling as Mark does. This means he can go ballistic allowing the guitar to act as a centerpiece, whereas Mark has to temper things - even with his solos - allowing "breathing room" and texture for accompanying piano and lyrics and storytelling.

amazing performence but imo Clapton has a little too much distortion in his tone. sounds funny when Knopfler plays the intro with his clean sound and then clapton comes in and his tone is just like an explosion... :D (btw im more into metal than into classic rock so i dont dislike heavily distorted guitar sounds but think in this case it doesnt fit with the song) the only thing to save this performence is claptons amazing guitar playing
