It's a bit more complex than that. Read up on either Rothbard or Rockwell (both solid libertarians) regarding Left vs. Right.

Yup. >>> "P.J. O'Rourke - boring drunk delusional has-been." >>> "Word. Used to refer to himself as a "humorist" and "pants-down Republican" and brag how he would do drugs and drink with all his rock star friends while voting for Republican corporate errand boys like Nixon and Reagan. O'Rourke's idea of libertarianism is as long? as you're rich, stay drugged in your little self-regarding bubble while the rest of the world goes to hell. Fucking profound. Now he's old and dissipated. Loser."

Republicans are liberals in the eyes of LIBERTARIANS. Ron Paul/Libertarians 2012. Try voting Right one time. Without the 2nd Amendment, all you have left are OUTLAWS.
By: AndersFriedrichsen. on 27 Nov 08, 21:03:47
I tend to agree, but I image a libertarian state to be voluntary. Hence you need to give concent, in order to be a part of the government. Also, you can create a socialist-community, where you share everything. What I love about libertarianism, is the freedom of choice. It doesn't go the other way around..

By: WNanette. on 23 Nov 08, 19:58:35
Anders, Libertarianism doesn't necessarily mean absolute Laissez Faire 'you're on your own now, pal' government. But it does tend more toward the more local you can get the hand-outs, the better it is for everyone involved. Tons of Mayors, City Managers, Congressmen - even Senators get tossed -on a regular basis- out on their smarmy, sick asses. But look what it took to friggin get rid of SHRUB? When stuff is handled locally, esp involving other people's money, the better the situation becomes.

Penn Jillette is incredible and intelligent- not that I agree with his religious beliefs. Glenn Beck is deserving of a blunt object.
By: AndersFriedrichsen. on 13 Nov 08, 21:09:40
I really like what Penn is pointing out, because waht you get thrown in your face, way too often, when you preach libertarianism is that you are selfish. But libertarianism is about compasion, and the democracy is draining the will to change things by your self. Libertarianism is about having the choice to help, and avoiding to be forced into it by the violence of the governing people.
By: espaceman000. on 12 Nov 08, 05:12:02
I've had a ton of respect for Penn for a long time now, and I've also really grown to like Glenn Beck. He's one of those people who I don't have to agree with to learn from.

By: knab69. on 30 Oct 08, 04:14:49
Liberty needs the rule of law in order to be realistic. Therefore we need an enforceable Constitution that enshrines individual rights backed up by penalties. The problem with our system is we still give so much legal leeway to leadership. Eventually the power hungry get to be leaders and they erode individual rights for personal gain. They set up systems of patronage and then they get people to push for democracy. This way people can vote away their own rights and cede power to the despot.
By: mightyturisas. on 30 Oct 08, 02:47:22
People view libertarianism as anarchism the same way english sympathizers during the revolutionary war considered their staunch ideals of republicanism (libertarianism) as anarchism, AND THEIR SYSTEM WAS BETTER!
By: jblive1985. on 23 Oct 08, 19:43:51
amen to the libertarians
By: madshred. on 19 Oct 08, 14:29:49
Beck is a tumbling, tumbling dickweed. He favors locking people up for dope charges because he doesn't want people killing themselves, but I'm pretty sure you can accomplish that very thing by walking down to the liquor store if you are so inclined. But there again, there needs to be some legal vehicle to keep the populus fucked up. The system thrives on lulling you to sleep.
