It is factually accurate, its based on the Battle of Thermopylae which was a last stand by 300 Spartans plus different groups of Greeks and Arcadians who wanted to stand with King Leonidus and fight with him. Sure some things have been slightly changed but that is for the artisitc liscence, and when you compare this to other so called 'historical' films such as Pearl Harbor it is incredibly accurate. But that probably says more about Pearl Harbor the movie than 300 to be honest...

By: chocoholicfreek. on 23 Nov 08, 02:33:26
not innacurate? are you serious? persia did occupy many other groups which explains the different fighters but the monsters and the piercings are absolutely innacurate and merely used as a form of entertainment.

That's basically my story, but I never bought the DVD. It was cool the first five times I saw it, but I've moved on to other movies :P
By: KosherPigz. on 12 Nov 08, 13:34:08
hey I never read the comic book once and never heard of it until the special edition dvd came out but I still watch the movie at least a few times a month...pretty damn awesome.
By: antagonist42. on 12 Nov 08, 06:12:05
Indeed, it was three-hundred Spartans vs. thousands of Perisnas, and the Spartans won the battle morally. However, it was still an innacurate movie but an exciting one nonetheless. I never knew it had a comic book, since I'm not into collecting things or reading pictures. XD
By: KosherPigz. on 12 Nov 08, 03:04:10
not "inaccurate" but... it's a movie based of a comic book which is based off of real events. There were no elephants or sorcery per say but the battle happened and the number of persians vs. spartans is accurate.
By: antagonist42. on 08 Nov 08, 13:42:14
Did YOU realize that I realized that already? I said it was innacurate but a good movie, dumbass. Jeez some people are so out of it...
By: pidbull. on 08 Nov 08, 06:32:00

The Greece might've done whatever the hell they wanted to with their myths, but I was talking about the directors of this movie. In what way is a rhinoceros an exaggeration? An elephant? Indeed, I know the minotaur was an exaggeration of the bull, but the directors of 300 didn't stretch the truth of the elephants and rhinoceri, THEY USED ACTUAL RHINOCERI AND ELEPHANTS IN THE MOVIE. Therefore, my original point has been proven: The movie is inaccurate but very entertaining.
By: antagonist42. on 04 Nov 08, 20:07:55
The Google definition of a legend is: a story about mythical or supernatural beings or events. What do 'supernatural' and 'mythical' mean? That's what I thought; you see, the relationship between the words myth and legend is called SYNONYMS. And have you ever heard the saying "to stretch the truth"? A SYNONYM for an exaggeration. Of course they played a large role, they were the entire Spartan army! IDK how old you are, but I'm in ninth grade, and I pity you if you're older than me.
By: barrella. on 04 Nov 08, 20:00:15
and the reason I brought Greece into this is because they themselves exaggerated their own stories. making beasts sound more terrifying, making men seem larger, GLORIFYING themselves. they knew they were the best. so it would make sense to make sure everyone else knew it too. the movie was made to give perspective to those exaggerated stories.
By: barrella. on 04 Nov 08, 19:50:45
well first off I think you mean myths aren't real in the first place, legends very much so do exist. and please tell me what is the difference between a stretch and an exaggeration? many of us already knew what happened, this movie just glorifies what should have been glorified. it was exaggerated to show that the Spartans played the biggest role in the battle of Thermopylae. however the people they fought, and the numbers in which they fought with were EXAGGERATED, or as you put it STRETCHED.
By: antagonist42. on 03 Nov 08, 21:47:41
It doesn't matter how much you distort legends, because legends were never real at all in the first place! This movie's truth was stretched because the directors wanted it to be more entertaining compared to the actual events that took place. They did a good job, but I probably only enjoyed part of what I could've since I already knew what'd really happened. You're an idiot. If you don't believe me, read what you've written in our posts and explain why you brought Greece into this.
By: barrella. on 03 Nov 08, 05:50:51
haha exactly. and buddy, we're talking about 2500 years ago. things were alot different. just look at greek society in those days and you can see where exaggerations come from.
By: Jasdfgh. on 03 Nov 08, 02:05:28
Actually, exaggeration is distortions of the truth, to make an achievement look grander than it was. It does no no way, shape or form mean that the exaggerator has to stick to exactly what happened to him, only a little bit bigger. He can embellish with whatever he wants. As long as the overall synopsis of the story remains the same. In others words... fuck off, and have a nice day.
By: antagonist42. on 01 Nov 08, 19:53:33
It's impossible to exaggerate something that never existed into something that did. That's called common sense. Leonidas was also a very young child in the wolf scene, and who knows what wolves looked like over five hundred years ago. LOL, look who needs to think it over now. (Before you use that statement against me, it's you.)
By: barrella. on 01 Nov 08, 17:37:52
that's what is menat by exaggeration. like how in the wolf scene the wolf looked huge and abnormal. it's the way history has been conveyed into myths and legends, and the movie is just complimenting those thoughts. I never said it actually hapenned. I said it was EXAGGERATION. please think about it long and hard if you wanna get back to me. this may be too much for you to comprehend.
By: antagonist42. on 31 Oct 08, 23:59:58
The Spartans never fought rhinos or elephants; they never had to kill a leviathan bloodthirsty demonic man; they never went into "killing sprees", but instead stayed in a straight line and made "waves" of attacks. For crying out loud, did you pay attention at all when you were in eigth grade history?
By: barrella. on 31 Oct 08, 21:54:51
it wasn't inaccurate. it was an exaggeration to compliment myths and legends.
