The whole trick is based on pulling the top card together with the bottom card so it seems he's showing you the top card when he's really showing you the BACK of the top card AND the FACE of the bottom card, since he pulled them together... Once you get it it's sooo obvious. At first I was worried about the OTHER card, but I finally got it. There's only three cards at all times, the THIS, THAT and OTHER. The whole trick is simply skillfully manouvering the top and bottom together on most times.

The last card is the green card and its a 5 of spades and the card under it is 5 of spades but with same colour card whn he shuffeles he doesnt change these cards they stay last in his hand then he puts the 8 dimends under it and then he shows u the card under the green card which is the 8 and put the green card away(5 not 8) and shows u the other 5 (last card) and makes u think he transfered it to the green card whn opens the green card

I don't think it's a 'they don't get it' kind of thing. Idk. There's a different sort of delivery live with this Waits song. I think it can be inferred in the man's more playful delivery of this version that he is really embellishing on the fantastic statements of the song. Also, listening to an album like Nighthawks, it is clear that Waits is not all doom and gloom; that is he understands the somewhat hyperbolic backgrounds of the characters he creates.
