Romanticizing the image of a hippy or wanting to be one upon watching the Woodstock movie is flawed thinking. Hippies were subject & privvy to beatings by police, always denied entry into hotels and other public places and basically rejected by society until the 80s where they became Yuppie Republicans, traded the weed for coke and became sell outs. Whereas I would have enjoyed the sex, drugs & rock and roll at Woodstock, I would have had a blast without wanting to be a hippy.

He had all his food and drinks spiked with acid (he did not know this was happening)....he went mental....a dangerous religous cult took him in, he ended up in the cult for 10 years, had 3 kids out of wedlock, walked out on his family because "Rasputen came to him in the night and told him to go out and seek adventures"......talk about your good times, huh?

I agree with you 100%. Every guitarists has their own unique way of playing. The age old argument Hendrix vs Clapton. I love them both. Hendrix had his style and Clapton has his. I saw Johnny around the same time--touring local venues with Leslie West and Corky Lang. West was okay--but not as good as he was when I saw him years ago after Papalardi was murdered and Mountain (obviously) broke up. Dino Daneli (of the Rascals) was with him & blazed on drums. But Johnny did look ill. He's almost blind; that may have partially explained him having to be helped on stage. But as you said, his riffs were uninspired and he looked tired. Sad, but I'll always remember him as he was.

Why do some people feel the need to rank guitarists? It's a purely subjective effort. Is Al Dimeola better that Larry Carlton? Is Andre Segovia better than Vince Gill? Is chocolate better than vanilla? One may render an opinion, but it's merely an opinion. Remember "Clapton is God?" Well, Clapton absolutely worships B.B. King--even though B.B. admits not knowing many chords. This is merely hero worship and has nothing to do with guitar as an art form. Still, the poster did display good taste.
