That is a very good question.I always believed this was the american answer to LED ZED from the start.I listened to this record a lot in 71-72 no other american band had this sound. Heavy Metal was not known yet as such, so they call this style Hard Rock, this is the birth of hard rock. the rest is history.

correct - originally Beck, Rod Stewart and the rhythm section of Vanilla Fudge(Bogert and Appice)were supposed to form. Beck crashes. Rhythm section grabs Detroiters McCarty (Mitch Ryder/buddy Miles Express) and Day (Amboy Dukes) and formed Cactus.Later Beck, Bogert, and Appice finally form without Rod Stewart....too bad as they really could have used him.BBA had no singers and no writers and otherwise would have been super great....

I saw the Original Cactus a couple of times. In 1971 they played the Rivoli Theater in Rutherford, New Jersey. Everything that could go wrong went wrong that night including the PA blowing up. Rusty was totally unflustered, they played a 1/2 hour version of NO NEED TO WORRY where he changed all the words as he went along. When he referred to the place as the "RAVIOLI THEATER" the crowd went nuts. Guys like Axel Rose would have bitched, moaned and walked off stage. Rusty was cool under pressure!

actually its acid-trance but with goa elements like almost all those stuff within the early 90s - the first real goa album i got is from 1993 and during this time goa mostly was made by mixing acid trance with house together - thats why terra ferma or junion jack and even some old commercial house tracks have goa elements - especially the platipus label was one of the first who released goa tracks till the goa labels came out - that was the time when goa was formed by all those influences ;-)

I remember you, Mike. They recruited you and another guy (Terry Kelly?) in between The Fudge & Cactus. Timmy & Carmine were talented beyond belief, but their egos were so big they walked all over everyone. They treated Vinnie like shit & McCarty couldn't wait to get outta Dodge! Tim is much nicer now, but Carmine is still a royal butt hole (although I admire his playing immensely). He'll do anything for money! I hope things worked out for you!

Cactus didn't write Parchman Farm. It's an old blues classic covered by many bands. Blue Cheer covered it two years earlier (1968), although Cactus album version (from their self titled released in 1970) is by far my favourite. :)
