I don't care what anyone says... Kid Rock is not a country singer. I do enjoy some of his songs, and I would not have heard them had they not been played on country stations, but that does not make him a country singer. This is just going to make me vent, so I won't get started. This is all just tied in to the fact that "country music" today is most definitly not country music. You will find that what i said isn't just the opinion of an indivdual but the state of alot of "music" today. I say this because the heart and the intent of music in Hank Jones' generation was purely to convey their heart upon certain matters, today alot of musicians perform to sell records to keep the record labels happy, so the "music" is churned out with simple melodies, simple lyrics and no real message. Theres a golf between music then and now, so i repeat, this is music!

ok, maybe some aspects of jazz (free jazz) are rife with chromaticism and dischord, but have you looked at the origins of jazz, from new orleans and dixieland big bands up to the cool jazz of the 50's? some jazz is horribly pretentious and frankly, shit, but its the type of genre you cannot bog into one catagory like that. and regarding emotion, have you ever looked at django rienheardt of louis armstrong playing? amazing emotion there...

I, too, wish the foul mouthed posters could clean up their language before they post. This video with Hank and Anita is nice to listen to and watch. No, he died from DRUGS and drinking. (The drugs were amphetamines. You don't hear a lot about them nowadays, but they were used a lot as stimulants back in the '50s.) Come to think of it, maybe the f---ing figured into it, but the drugs were the straw that broke the camel's back.

The song is the title track from Joe's album I'm All For You. It's just a head he wrote on the changes to Body and Soul. On this take he plays the melody rather loosely leaving it sounding totally improvised, so check the album to better understand what he's playing. He's just following in the footsteps of Tristano, Marsh and Konitz (and Bird before them) by composing more rhythmically/harmonically complex melodies over an existing popular chord sequence. This song is Body and Soul. It might be a bit unrecognizable since neither of them play the actual melody. They're really just playing on the changes of the tune. It's still gorgeous though! I can't believe how great Hank sounds in his late 80s. For another example of a pianist playing amazing stuff at an advanced age check out Artur Rubinstein in his final years.

About the Florida Link, i was lucky enough to get one in near mint condition a couple of months ago for the grand total of....*drum roll*......$150! At first i thought it was impossible but the guy i got it from was a retired sax player who bought the mouthpiece some 20 years ago and didnt even know what it was. it was the best 150 dollars ive ever spent
