I disagree partially; Dame Kiri Kanawa yes, but Renee Femming brings back the great colors of their mother Price. Kanawa being the light colors Price to Fleming's dark. Both give extraordinary performances and I like them as necessities for different reasons; Fleming is second to no one, maybe not even Price but neither is Kanawa. Damn: its taste or mood!

I've listened closely several times, and have a problem discerning anything that isn't simply part of the expression I have grown to know and lvoe from Ms. Fleming. But I am getting older . . . perhaps the road trip got to her a little, but this is one of the more difficult vocals for a soprano. And that incredible high! What a voice! Best, Chuck

I adore her artistry but such glotal sounds were heard in this clip.. I wonder if she was having some vocal problems that night! I think even as a professional singer its important for me not to be so judgemental on my peers and idols simply because we are not machines.. its not going to be perfect EVERYTIME!! And being on the road and having to be the best I totally understand what can happen to the voice!!

She sounds old and not exquisit (legatoline and breathing are a horror) enough for that aria! She lost her qualitys because she is singing to much the heavy stuff - and her voice is not uge enough for that- only to darken the voice is not good and never enough! RENE FLEMING is a killer of her voice! Excuse I am not praud about... to say this... Normally I love her Mozart and Händel......

Boy I was glad to hear this video. I saw other live vids of her and I wasn't super impressed. It seemed like her other live songs were shaky, and I was kind of disappointed thinking that she was being produced to death in the studio. This video proved that she's as good in real life as she is in the studio....and that's a good thing. There aren't a lot of young artists that are as good live as they are on their totally doctored c.d.s. Yay Renee!

Turridu, normally I would agree with you, but with bel canto music, the point is really to have no bite, rather just perfect legato smooth singing. I personally like the edgier voice, but technically Renee is singing this perfectly.

Wonderful Desdemona. One doesn't need to compare her to other great interpreters to state that. She's great, period. Tebaldi, Freni and so many other singers were remarkable Desdemonas, and still Fleming does wonderful things. It's an intimate, deep, heartbreaking interpretation coupled with an extraordinary voice.

It's flattering for fans to hear artists sing the repertoire they love and favor. It's almost like sharing their diary. Now, if Sumi Jo were to sing Wagner, well, period the end. Renee is deeply expressive, and truly states the text's meaning with her actions & body language. I've heard some great voices, but NO acting & the stage presence is just dead. Some truly surpassed their lack of vocal health and acted the hell out of a piece and the audience wanted more. Just my thoughts...

I don't think her voice should have more bite. Does Mariella Devia have more bite? It's her phrasing and understanding of the style that are lacking. In fact, she stated once in an interview that she wasn't fluent in Italian and that she concentrates on the French and German repertoire.

you really dont think this impression is impressive? she sings with no push, she makes it sound effortless at the beginning which many dont. Listen to others who sing it well but drive it to much in some parts and can not diminuendo.Fleming's tone is pure and clean and controlled. Listen to her depuis le jour and i guarantee you will not hear a more lifted pure not pushed voice.

It's interesting to hear Fleming sing this (bomb!), and then compare it with Dorotha Roschmann, and hear how styles have changed for Mozart. This is very refined. The 2006 Salzburg Nozze sounds more raw (it's all like 3:20). And Kiri Te Kanawa was something of a combination of the two. By the way, thank you Renee for laying waste to the idea that opera singers have to do these big, pointless gestures to be effective.

Thanks for this record: even though maybe Renee Fleming is not a kind of Mozartian voice, I agree with those who thing that definitelly this Fleming's achievement is something to appreciate and not to critisize. I never understood well such people who all the time complain about everything or simply critisize everything. I understand the complaint about Ms. Fleming singing in "modern style". I think that in small ways it does detract. For example, do I wish her voice was steady throughout as it is from 5:15-5:25? Of course. When it speeds up she seems to have a much easier time (as she has written in her auto-bio). However, I can forgive this small detraction when I think about the feeling in her interpretation. Overall, there is more to appreciate than to criticize. In my opinion.
