Actually it goes a step further with the lending of money. This is called fractional reserve banking. It is in regards to the amount a bank has to keep in it's vault vs lending. A bank lends 90% of what you deposit out. That 90% is then deposited. 90% of that amount is lent out. Now take every sinlge home, building, factory, business loan and you get a idea of where moeny is created out of nothing. Trillions created out of nothing.

Loans and bailouts to brokerages and large banks from the FED just inject more fiat money on the economy, thus depreciating everyone else's money. This allows the FED "elite" to give money at low interest to favored entities (banks) that just devalue everyone else's money. A loan at two percent with T-bills giving you 4.5% is just "free money" for other wealthy people. Anyone who cant make money on a two percent FED bailout loan is no businessman. Usury is only bad in context of printing money, or Fractional Reserve Banking. I would wager that outlawing usury wouldn't stop central banks from printing money, and wouldn't stop the fractional reserve system. However, if you outlawed printing money, and outlawed fractional reserve banking then I don't see usury as being a significant problem. Responsible people may need loaned money for legitimate purposes. I can see no reason why they should be denied that because of stupid people.

Maybe, but the problem is that the debtor has signed a contract and contracts have to be honored by law, and so, the debtor would go bankrupt and the lender would get his posessions. Obviously, usury is not as bad as the fractional reserve system, but it is a very dangerous road, and its actually how the fractional reserve system started.

But who creates the money? the central bank, so everybody has to borrow money from the central bank (in our case inderectly). Let me put you a simple example: if the central bank creates 100 dollar and lends 10 dollars to 10 banks, and the banks have to give back 1 dollar in interest. So now everybody has to give 11 dollars to the central bank, that makes 110 dollars have to go back to the central bank, but only 100 dollars are in circulation, so someone is not going to be able to repay.

This is usury, and does not increase the amount of money in circulation. The central banks printing money is what increases the amount of money in circulation. I don't think you know what usury is. Usury is charging interest on money which you have loaned out. If you are risking your money by giving it to someone else, you should be compensated for such risk. The federal reserve prints money, and loans it out. The problem isn't the loaning of money, but the printing of money. The Fed commits fraud by printing money, and that is wrong. The Fed is wrong, and by extension the American Gov is wrong. What's wrong with usury? His first sentence is, "I think it begins with our own central bank, the federal reserve, which 4 years ago created excess liquidity ..." The Fed creates liquidity by lowering interest rates. In other words, the problem was the Fed was not committing enough usury. Why should someone not get a return when they risk their money? Why would anyone ever give you a loan? So again, what is wrong with usury? Note: I am not defending the Fed, I am just defending usury.

The fed tightened the money supply at the start of the depression to keep us on the gold standard. The gold standard then transmitted the depression to Britain. Please watch my Milton Friedman videos closely. By the way, we had financial panics in 1837, 1857, 1873, 1890, and 1907 while on the gold standard and BEFORE the federal reserve even existed. It was an active central bank and FDIC insurance that prevented this for 70 years after the Great Depression.

That's why I said he makes Hoover look like God. My site features Milton Friedman's analysis of the depression. Hoover wasn't able to stop the bank panics. As a result, our economy contracted by over 1/4 from 1929 to 1933. FDR did what it took to stop them and our economy stopped contracting.

You forgot the fact that the federal reserve can increase the money supply by printing more money, they don't do that because that is too transparent and obvious; however that's not a problem in Zimbabwe. Another point, building the pyramids would also not be good for the economy as it displaces labour and resources away from real wealth creation. Instead everyone blames the war in Iraq for the high gasoline prices and lawyers or speculators for the rising costs of medicine and housing.
