theres just one that comes close, Joe Sakic showing the same class ray showed esposito, getting the cup as captain and giving it right to ray so he could raise it first...after 22 years RAYMOND BOURQUE!!!

That has to be the classiest thing I've ever seen anyone in sports do. I don't think it will ever be topped by anyone

You just HAD to bring THAt up huh? I STILL PISSED OFF at that. But in the end its still woulda shoulda coulda. Would they have stomped the Rangers? Sure, But Espo got there and THEY didnt. Bad luck call or not. And I LOVE GRAPES,MET him once TOO. But he screwed up big time that day.
By: dafoomie. on 04 Dec 08, 05:41:38
They were real close in 79. The Bruins would've rolled right over the Rangers in the finals if not for that too many men call.
By: rf396. on 04 Dec 08, 02:30:02
But given how it turned out... NO CUPS, I'd have rather hung on to Phil and Vad and avoided the whole Bourque fiasco. Giving him #7 was strictly another Bastard Harry poke in the eye to phil. Harry Sinden sucks and has been Jeremy's no salaries lackey for decades. I wish they'd both die. If Jacobs needed to ruin a team so badly he should've bought the Sabres and stayed the F in Buffalo
By: rf396. on 04 Dec 08, 02:26:37
Well the reason I mention the espo deal is that it is well documented in Thunder and Lighting and Grapes as well as a few other places, that Harry promised Espo that during his previous contract negotiations that, if Espo would forgo the No Trade Clause, that IF he did DEAL HIM, that HARRY would NOT send him to NY which is exactly what the bastard did. Now, did I love having the two best defensmen in the game on the points for 10 games and a guy like Ratelle? sure. Im with you there.
By: dafoomie. on 04 Dec 08, 01:52:29
You are right about Harry having a track record of treating people poorly, but I can't include the Espo deal as part of that. Espo was becoming a problem for the Bruins and Don Cherry wanted him moved. Plus, they got Brad Park and Jean Ratelle for him, and laid the groundwork for the Hodge/Middleton deal. Eagleson (as NHLPA head) and Bill Wirtz (Blackhawks owner, board of governors chairman) colluded to keep salaries down, and colluded to get Orr to Chicago. How was Harry to know?
By: rf396. on 04 Dec 08, 00:53:29
Actually, we are both correct. While true that Eagleson Screwed Orr as much or MORE than Harry did by NOT telling him of the offer, It was Johnson's remarks that were the clicher for Bobby. Perhaps, if Harry and Bobby had dealt one on one this would have been avoided. But lets face it, and if your a longtime B's fan you'll know that Harry has a LONG track record of stabbing players in the back. Like sending Phil to NY for one thing after promising him he wouldnt.
By: dafoomie. on 03 Dec 08, 22:24:15
Thats false. The Bruins offered Orr 18% ownership of the team, but his agent, Alan Eagleson, never told Orr about it. Eagleson later went to jail for various crimes including defrauding the NHL pension fund.

What a class-act Ray Bourque was..... I thought that was soooo cool when he removed the Number 7 jersey to reveal his brand new number.....77..... Thanks for posting this!

By: rf396. on 04 Nov 08, 03:54:08
Actually Bobby WAS returning to Boston to finish his career and it TOM JOHNSON, HARRY'S LACKEY, who said "Bobby Orr is finished in Boston" Orr heard this and went to Chicago. For every great deal Harry ever swung, he has done equal or MORE damage to the franchise. HE SUCKS

It sounds like your of the opinion that I'm picking on the Bruin. I'm simply restating the facts. By criticing ole Number 4 and 77 I know that I am treading upon sacred ground but consider the angle of my contentions. I'm critical of Bruin fans for giving Bobby and Ray a free pass when it comes to their decisions to leave the B's. Both men left of their own free will and yet fans blindly point a finger at everyone but the true guilty party. I can't stand when people revise history.

Ummm.. excussssse me have any of you everplayed the game?????
By: slapshot254. on 16 Aug 08, 22:02:04
How is it that we come across different video's all the time and consistently have completely different opinions on a certain players character. You consistently bash every player that has left the Bruins or any team for that matter. I am sorry but the opportunity to win the Cup is a good enough reason to think about yourself for once and not the team you've played for. Ray and Bobby both had massive character issues? Bull Shit. So who doesn't have character issues Alexander Diagle?
By: dome1972. on 16 Aug 08, 00:03:33
I love how Bruin fans cling to the notion that Bobby didn't have some part in the decision to end his time with the B's. Again, it is just another example of a fan base that has to lie to itself in order to preserve their failing relevance. The fact is that Bobby had a choice to go back to Boston but he chose not to. Whether he chose to leave Boston because he knew he would never be the same type of player or that money talks and bullshit walks, only Bobby knows for sure.
By: dome1972. on 15 Aug 08, 23:55:53
How is bringing the cup, that he won with another team, back to Boston the right thing? The fact that he had the nerve to do it just shows what he thinks of the team, that employed him, and the city, who loved him. There isn't a spin that can be created that can explain his act other that for what it was. It was the biggest snub of his former teammates and fans that could possible be orchastrated. Any yet, Bruin fans think that it's a show of respect. It was a petty display by a petty man.
By: slapshot254. on 15 Aug 08, 21:37:56
Once again you are wrong. You are consistently wrong about all matters concerning this great sport. Ray isn't selfish, he did the right thing. And as far as the Cup goes. Anyone would do the same thing. You probably blame Orr for leave to Chicago too when in reality it was Eagleson's fault. Ignorant talk about a great hockey player no matter your personal jealous feelings about him.
