I was one of the dancers in this video and had a blast doing it. ALL of the band members are men and all sound like men. Their hair in this video was fairly common for rock bands of the time. MTV did exist in early 1987 when the video was released but most people didn't have cable tv then. Great song. I still love listening to it.

I agree with you. I've been a Def Leppard fan for about 30 years, and I've listened to their music with a lot of different people. I've heard of people who don't particularly care for them, but I never heard anyone call Def Leppard's music "bubble gum pop" until I got on YT. Crazy!! What I find really interesting is that it's always a guy who is calling them "bubble gum pop" and sellouts. I've never read a comment posted by a female saying that. Odd, huh? Anyway, you're right. These stations don't play pop at all, but I hear Def Leppard all the time. Def Leppard is recognized all over the world as an accomplished rock band. They have been a major rock band for 30 yrs. I don't know much (if anything about sign language) but I do know about performing and you also have to remember that Rives isn't just a poet... he is a performer. Maybe he's using the "older signs" because they are more visually stimulating to the untrained eye. Like I said I don't know but it would be a good reason from the performance side of things. I have been raised on this group and a lot of other 80's music. It has to be my all time favorite kind of music. ROCK & ROLL!!! I just bought a Def Leppard CD today and me and my mom listened to it all the way home from the store today. I love it!!!!!!!! The drummer is my fav of all drummers, he has 1 arm and still is more kick-ass than any other drummer EVER!!!!!!!!!

My commentary on Saul's "poetry" is coming from the perspective of a critic. This is the central theme in T.S. Eliot's "The Sacred Wood".
