Once again, excellent job explaining how the networks currently work. Obviously, there's the whole theory vs. practice thing. Everyone's free to use it how they want (within the limits of the website's capabilities) and not everyone is an expert on maximizing potential and not everyone wants to follow up on that potential. This is fine. But like all things, more often that not, they're used in ways that waste time rather than save time. Videos like this one are bound to help reverse this.

@pristinewaters: Friends aren't exactly a new invention, you know. If you have no friends you can always make some the way normal people do: by talking to people. Join a club or association, go to social events. You get to meet people AND do something you like, or learn something useful. Work on your social skills if you need to. Slash that last part, work on them anyway. It's funny how some of the people who need to do that most think they actually don't.

Well, not taking into account that many people have "friends" on social networking sites who are actually people they barely know, how would this thing work through Hi5 or facebook? No. Just no. The fact of the matter is journalists are TRAINED to deliver and research "news", and editors are TRAINED to make sure only interesting and non-offensive content gets published. The vast, vast majority of bloggers are not, so it's just becomes a source of pointless, sometimes offensive, misinformed drivel. I'd go on the BBC to read blogs any day. Yeah, they keep your photos really safe. No they don't. Remember the little incident where private photos on flickr became public for some hours, due to a bug? I recommend not uploading photos which you would mind some stranger seeing. There are other ways to backup, like burning them on a cd. Anyway, there is no other convenient way of sharing a lot of photos with family who is far away :/

It's up to each of the services to give you that confidence. Flickr is owned by Yahoo, and I'm sure there is very little chance that Yahoo is going to crash and lose everyone's photos. At least that's my perspective.

In theory, yeah that's how it works. Everyone's happy. In practice, everything falls apart (mostly due to the content, and the people, there's nothing really wrong with the system). However, as you can see with politics being a prime (but not the only) example, the Social (alternative) media is not left alone by those in power. If you can explain the IRS in plain English, you'd be doing the courts a favor because apparently they can't figure it out.

The heat in incandescents is expensive. Natural gas is still cheaper than electricity. It is very inefficient to contribute any useful heat to your home. Plus in the summer, this is a negative. The amount of mercury in a bulb is about 5mg. Still, one must be careful. They are making CFLs without mercury now.

You said you have your family using these bulbs and you love them, well that is fine, personally I don't like the glow of fluorescent unless it is in my shop but its not the "glow" and the envy of it we are talking about here. The bulbs contain mercury and the manufacturers and federal government haven't come up with effective ways to get Americans to recycle them. Mercury is a potent neurotoxin, and it's especially dangerous for children and pets.

1. Yes I know full well what NAFTA is. After NAFTA many companies moved to Mexico and elsewhere because they simply could not compete with the external competitions and also wanted to escape US Corporate Tax. I feel it opened up the gateway for trade with Europe, Asia etc etc. A good example of this is Japan and the car industry. It is the trickle down effect that I am talking about. Anyway this is all a subject for another day.

NAFTA? Thats NORTH AMERICAN Free Trade Agreement -- free trade between US, Mexico & Canada. Last I checked, China was in far-east Asia. Getting back to Mercury, a risk of Mercury poisoning exists from eating Tuna Fish / seafood, not just broken CFL's. I've replaced over 57 edison bulbs w/ CFL's at my home & my families home in 2 states. We love them. We only bought GE bulbs since they are highest quality. @ least GE is a US Company, but yea it sucks they build them in China.

1A. Well I just looked it up and you are right, I guess they call that a paradox. Still doesn't take the sight off these bulbs being unsafe for humans with the high levels of mercury. All though GE still has engine manufacturing plants here in the US, their lighting facilities are in China and you can blame that on Bush and Bush Sr with his NAFTA etc etc.

GE CFLs are also all made in China. In fact, most GE bulbs, regardless of type, are mostly all made in China. If anybody knows of any light bulbs still made in the USA I'd be interested to hear....

1. These are peaces of shit health hazard bulbs that are ONLY MADE IN CHINA. These bulbs are so loaded with Mercury that if you break one you have to evacuate the area in which it broke. Then clean up is nothing sort of a scaled down hazmat operation.

Right on, man. You got it. I have been around too many people who simply do not wish to put in the effort to think. It's pretty much the equivalent of standing with your mouth open and drooling at pretty colors. They turn everything off and spout the same stupidity that everyone else is spouting. OMG the only change in this REVISED vid is that after complaints of not including how dangerous they were when they break and they contain mercury, the new REVISED vid in 3 seconds says mercury bad, and recycle!!!! Unfortunately, this just is not true. CFL's have a net NEGATIVE impact on the environment, when looking at CO2 EMISSIONS from manufacturing. CFL's are more costly (and dangerous) to manufacture, use, and dispose of. The Center for Disease Control states that if a CFL breaks, LEAVE THE ROOM IMMEDIATELY for 10-15 minutes to avoid inhaling mercury. The only country IN THE WORLD manufacturing CFLs is CHINA. Remember what the air looked like in Bejing before the Olympics? Look it up, CFLs ARE A LIE!
