1. Regina isn't a Christian, not that it matters. 2. Why should this "stay in the bible"?? 3. Almost all of Regina's songs are stories. It's one of the things I love about her music. actually - if you bothered to look into it you'll have realised that these lyrics are actually one of the most well thought-up in the history of music. there is a story called Samson and Delilah, it's a religious story. If you knew the story you'd know how metaphorical and meaningful this was.

I really love Regina! Of most singers, i get bored after have heard the song like over 15 times. But i will never get bored of regina, she's timeless! You're not alone. I just realized from your comment that maybe one of her best qualities is that no matter how often you hear her, you don't get tired of it. I haven't, and I listen to her over and over. With most music, even stuff you like, it can turn out that way sometimes, or you at least need a break from it for a while. Appropriately she turned that to her complete advantage by acting an edgy and eager Dalila rather than a laid back one... Wonderful! I found Baltsa's interpretation very interesting, she acts a Dalila that is always pretending and never looks as if having much pleasur in seducing Samson. It's a less romantic but very intelligent characterization. And vocally Baltsa and Domingo are the ideal partners! Both have voices with ardour and incredible expressivity. Their presence on stage together is fiery!

I'm in the chorus of the Louisville Orchestra concert production of Sampson. We had our dress rehearsal last night. The performance is Friday, March 28th. I sat in the hall during act two (no chorus in that act) and got to hear her do this from 15 feet away (with Stephen O'Mara as Sampson). I can tell you that she is the total package. You have no idea how powerful her voice is until you hear it in person. What an honor to have the chance to back her up in this gorgeous opera.

In my opinion, I'd have to say '94 and '95 the last two years were pretty dire. Jerry's health was failing, his carpal tunnel was getting worse and he was back into drug use with a vengeance. I'm not a fan of most of '86 either. After Brent Mydland died in '90 I don't think the band ever fully recovered, and to me new keys player Vince Welnick didn't fit in until '93 which I think is a good year. My fav years are 69 to 72, 77, and the early 80s. Other folks really love 73 - 74. Just my opinion.

I play this tune as well and maybe that's why I'm being ciritical. I love this tune. It's very delicate, dramatic and erotic. I'm pretty sure Debussy paid all his attention to every note he wrote, otherwise he couldn't have made it this beautiful. Pianists should respect that.

I don't think I agree. While there were beautiful moments, here were also a number of things I didn't care for. I'm bothered by his changes of tempo in several places, holding back where it feels like it wants to go forward, and Debussy asks you to get faster. I was also amused that he missed the final low A. I've observed that you can break a finger missing that note if you go too far the wrong way! I partially missed it in an audition last summer, but hit it in the subsequent concert.

This is by far the best performance of this elusive piece I have heard; my next favorite is Gieseking;s, but Francois' is a marvel of colors and wondrous pedaling played at exactly the correct tempo, with every detail clearly heard. It doesn't get any better than this.

Beautiful!!! He has such a great sound and suprizing momentz. As my teacher described it to me when I played it: "I'ts a party on an island where everyone is eating, drinking and smoking (weed). And in the middle it's the rendering of how the ocean looks like when you're "high", after that they are all smiling and enjoying the rush as it all emerges into an APOCALYPTIC ORGY, and the lights out". Thought that was a quite catchy way to say it.

After a lot of further research I am going to say we will not know until Regina does an interview and answers because there are so many saying it is about a dog and so many saying its about samson and dellilah. This song is not about Samson and Delilah. If you listen carefully the song is about her dog. There are so many contradictions to the bible story including 'the bible didn't mention us' I think she has cleverly tied into the song that her dog is named after the bible Samson. I was at this show in Chicago and the first time I ever heard/saw Regina...I fell in complete love with her... So beautiful and a gorgeous voice and the way she would smile when we applauded was so endearing.
