I agree,alot of rock and metal drumming is simple.Listen to guns and roses,Fairly straight forward to play but still fun and effective.But to me an excellent drummer can play both highspeed technical drumming and still play simple effect drumming as well. Arcturus' drumming is far from simple,but he can still do basic roc as well.

its funny that a lot of drummers are only in for the speed and complicated stuff but this drummers got feel and listen to all of it the basic pattern may be simple but listen to the little things and the tone he gets from his kit! also typr sean kinney in to youtube and look at that looks simple but it really aint! metal is the most simple drumming in the world!

The Beatles were naturally gifted, came up with melodies, rhythms, harmonies, chords to fit their ideas, and played what made sense to them in terms of what they were trying to accomplish. When experts marvel at how a song can contains passages in 4/4, 3/4, 5/4, etc., and "strange" modes like the mixolydian, it's all after the fact. I don't think they were aware of any of this and just went with what felt right.

Hendrix is untouchable. He really felt the music, much more than others. I always felt like Dylan And Hendrix should've worked together: Bob the lyrics and Jimi the guitar (look at Jimi's covers of Bob). A guy like jimi was just getting started, and he was too harassed by everyone to do what he should have done. I believe that out of everyone of the 27years death club, Jimi had the most he still had to show us. Because people recognize this his albums are up there with the greats.

He was an excellent song writer, that's why we still talk about him... And on the topic of Sgt. But Speaking as a fan and professional musician, I have to point out that Content is only half of the equation. Jimi's SOUND is SILL untouchable. It will Never be cliche to say Hendrix is a "guitar-god" who operates in his own stratosphere. Never. Your right, Just being obscenely proficient on an instrument doesn't make you 'better' than a master songwriter. But his sound continues to be a wellspring from which all rock (and other) musicians drink for textural inspirato!

I completely agree with your endorsement of the Beatles' & Beach Boys' influences, respectively. Not only were those records masterfully written, there were uber-masterfully produced & engineered. Hendrix's tunes from "AYE?" are admittedly, simpler in harmonic structure, and yeah ~ his lyrics are kinda enigmatic and not nearly as mature as....well....Ringo's on an OK day ;)

I'd argue VU & Nico is miles more important than Sgt Pepper or Pet Sounds because the VU had the balls to be unique. Yes, that was Manfred Mann, of all people. To also answer vjwalcek's question below, the year that song was recorded was 1971. It was on the 'Look at Yourself' album, and they played it a lot on tour throughout 1972. I was privileged to see Uriah Heep three times. The only group I liked as much in 'live' performance was Pink Floyd. Uriah Heep from 1970 to 1976 - when David Byron was vocalist - was arguably the best rock band in the world. We won't see their like again soon, unfortunately.

Love the band, love the album. You know how there are certain bands that just have that passion for music and you can see it in their shows and hear it in thier music. My Morning Jacket is one of those bands (along with Porcupine Tree). Listen to them and you know that they are in it for the love of music and performing and not in it for the money. This is the way rock and roll was meant to be, real heart, not some corporate entity pumping out cookie cutter commercialism, but honest passion!
