man, being a goalie is much harder than u think.. most ppl think bein a goalie is easy but even with the lack of movement it is just as important as any other position and thats what makes it so hard, if our team is behind a goal its up to US to stop another goal from happening so that our team can catch up, the pressure is insane! when we see a breakaway.. its like watching a glass cup falling off the table.. we know if we dont save it, there will be a big mess on our hands.

Yea I know, but the "gaffe" there is the fact that he "threw" the ball to the striker's foot. God, given the circumstances he was trying to intercept the cross which he did a decent job with...only problem was that the striker was dead in front of him. Although I'm willing to say, its videos like this that make me go out on the field and vow not to commit those errors and spend extra time training.

I've got to go with ymirnickp. I've nothing against field hockey, but as someone who's played both, Ice Hockey is far more brutal. As ymirnicko pointed out, ice hockey players are going MUCH faster, and the players are usually pretty big. Not to mention, it's played on ice, which is a harder than a field, unless you play inside or on something like concrete. The pucks are harder and going much, much faster than field hockey balls, the chance of getting sliced by a skate, et cetera.

ok as a referee and a goalie let me just straighten the whole rule thing up. its a european league so unless any of you are from europe you dont know and you cant assume the rules are the same. secondly in most leagues in the usa the goalie can go anywhere he wants on the ice but once he crosses the red line he is subject to the same stick legality rules as most players and therefor can only play the puck with a players stick.

im pretty sure that is illegal the rule that allows teams to pull their goalies only lets them skate to their bench they cannot handle the puck outside of their teams defensive zones (some leagues only allow behind the hash marks of the faceoff circle) if the handle the puck by freezing it with any equipment or passing shooting or handling the puck is a 2 minute minor

No, look at the video carefully! As the goalie was leaving, the referee had his arm up meaning it's a delay penalty call. The goalie made the right move by leaving the net early for an extra attacker. Apparently this happened at the very end when the other team had empty net. But it was a delayed call, that's why the goalie left and was allowed to cross the blue line.

butterfly is not the only way to do it...goalie instructors who are not good enough to see that other styles of play (like stand up and the style this guy plays) work drill that into their goalies' heads. and if you doubt me try asking rob stauber. only goalie to win a hobey baker, coaches over 900 goalies and played with wayne gretzky. Or maybe rob tallis. ex-blackhawk. both have coach me and both say that refining whatever works for you is the best way to go about goaltending...
