That's awesome! We had a greyhound a few years back but he got bone cancer and we had to put him down. He was only five I think. I still miss him. Seeing yours, I was laughing at how they are! We only had one so I never really got to see that they do a lot of the same things and ours wasn't just a weirdo:) I was like, wow, when they lay down all of em must show their teeth and have their tongues hanging out the sides of their mouths! Thanks for the video, it brought back a lot of good memories!

Absolutely LOVED this video. We have had 5 greys, currently have two. The tan one that crawled right up next to you and started licking you looks exactly like our beloved Venture, age 13, whom we had to put down in June, due to cancer. So glad that you are posting these videos. Ppl need to know what wonderful, adoring creatures these greys are. It's as if they KNOW that you have saved their lives, and they are eternally grateful and devoted. We began OUR love affair w/greys 10 years ago.

Oh, is this ever familiar! We have a beagle mix and a greyhound mix and they sleep with us quite a bit. If we need to sleep *well* we make them sleep on their bed at the foot of ours. Emma is a bed hog, but Sarah curls up in a ball at the foot. They like being beneath the covers, "going moley" as we say.

I have a greyhound called Pilot, he sometimes sneaks up onto my bed, I try to make him sleep on his quilt on the floor but a few weeks ago I woke up with an upside down foot in my eye. Greyhound make great pets. If anyone is watching this and thinking of getting a dog then please consider a greyhound! Ex racing ones come in all sizes and ages, some puppies don't make it to racing so although they're pedigree you can get puppies to for a very good adoption price!

Hehe good video... lots of energy! :) I swear clicking the link to this video I thought it was just going to be a greyhound sleeping on the bed with their head on the pillow (and running, barking like a puppy, and sometimes letting the "pooooof" gas of wind go!) My grey loves to play with his stuffed animals on the bed and does that spin sometimes as well :)

This is a rescue place...not people who race them. Our greyhound Genie came through this place when the people who raced her retired her and sent her to these folks in order to get ready for adoption. No house would be big enough for this many rescued dogs and I am so thankful that they were there to take our Genie in before she came to live with us.

I dunno, I see it as living in a boarding situation. Why can't the people who own these racing greyhounds allow the greyhounds to live at their house rather than be boarded their entire racing career? My dogs HATE being boarded and much prefer home. These poor greys don't know what they are missing yet as they haven't experienced a loving HOME yet. =( A kennel can't love a grey like a real home can.

i have a georgeous greyhound called prince- racing name genetic freak. we rescued him. never ever go to a race behind the scenes they are so cruel. they cut off the greyhounds ears becuz they have all the infomation about there owners in a tag on the inside of their ears and they also kick them into the trap which means tht my greyhound now has permenent leg damsge. how can anyone be so cruel. xxx

I have done greyhound rescue for 6 years now, and I have to say that the kennel work was my favorite part! the kennel is closed and the hounds are now in foster homes, but that kennel experience was the best....the hands on with the dogs is about as good as you can get! I vollenteer at a place like that only I feed them clean there cenals and and play with them. I go 2 houers 1 time a week. I love it there. the dogs are always so happy. I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video because I've lost count. For me, when I saw Bradshaw it was love at first sight. If it wasn't so far from NY I'd be at the Resort giving him hugs and kisses. To me, he exemplifies the true spirit of the greyhound - give 'em lemons and they'll make lemonade. He's amazing.

WOW, cool to see that. We were part of the first try of this over here in Auckland at the Vector arena. Our greyhound Ronin, along with about 9 others from NZ GAP(greyhounds as pets) were approached by crowded house to do the same thing at their 28th October show. I hope you all had as much fun as we did, and were looked after just as well. looks like a great time was had by all!

Alas, this odious specimen wasn't jailed - he got fined a couple of thousand pounds, not for killing thousands of healthy young greyhounds (which, believe it or not is perfectly legal in the UK)but for burying them in his back yard (now, that is illegal!). I know here in the UK a lot of work is underway to save these beautiful animals. Recently a local man was jailed for destroying literally thousand of dogs and burying them on his land (and being paid to do so). We need to ensure that there IS a life for them after racing and anything that my most favourite band in the world can do to help is most welcomed and admired. Fabulous video. Thank you.

They are AMZZING animals. How can a creature that has been fred to hynt for 3000 years be so gentle? We have had two rescued Greyhounds and they both have been wonderful. Boonie our first, developed liver cancer and we had to have him put down. Finesse is now in our home and is truly a "member of our family" All they want is to love and to be loved.

They don't have a lot of stamina. THey have all fast-twitch muscle. So they run like mad for a minute or two (catch the rabbit) and then SNOOZE for a day. Great dogs. You just have to run them every other day for a few minutes and they are happy. That and get a big couch for them to lie on....

Oh yes, these dogs are SO abused. My girl hates the fact that she was taught to hug and run to the point where she'll even do it without being asked. There are some bad kennels and trainers; shut them down, not the whole industry. Very few dogs are killed nowadays; most of this information is years if not decades out of date. Get to know a few of the good owners and trainers and you'll understand why they breed and race the dogs. Some even select the retirement homes when the dogs are pups!

My wife and I adopted a greyhound. Our dog Carmalitta is a great dog. She doesn't bark, bite, doesn't like, and is totally chill. She sleeps majority of the time. When I take her out in public she leans against me and always likes to be petted.

Adopt a greyhound, abolish greyhound racing. These animals are not interbred but they are overbred to get the best racers - they do love to run, but the rest of their life is in a room with stacked cages. Itis worse than a puupy mill, and they are killed by the thousands, sometimes starved to death. I look at my elegant, dignified, beautiful creature and cannot imagine how she was used for four years.

wow! what a brilliant compilation you have put together. Your montage has perfectly captured the greyhounds emotional and physcological connection that these creatures have with us humans. Indeed many of the scenes depicted reflect exactly our two spanish galgos Amber and Harvey. Thank you for trying so hard to save as many as you can. If God made a better companion I don't know what it would be. We have had two. We had Boonie, a large male for only four years when we had to have him put down. Thank you for the great chapters on Greyhound adoption.I adopted a Grey from forthehounds and have never been happier. Blue is the best dog I've ever had. He failed out of racing class.He gets along with small dogs, cats, and even rabbits.Some Greys just don't have a prey drive, and fortunely we found each other.Just a great dog and an owner who wants to give every act of love back in return

Yes from my own experience I can definitely say that greyhounds are the best dogs. I personally was against getting one because they are skinny and I thought that they are not all that domesticated but I was wrong big time and thank my wife for persauding my otherwise.

There is now a long section of the video here-- Chapter 9, Greyhounds with Other Dogs-- which addresses this question in detail (it had not been uploaded when evinaki first posted her question). The simple answer is that you can easily find a greyhound who will be fine with small dogs and cats-- but there are of course some who simply aren't going to be good matches with any small animals. We've personally had up to 6 hounds and a tiny rat terrier living happily together.

Greyhounds generally get on with small dogs but sometimes ex-racers may mistake small dogs for a rodent such as a rabbit and may try to catch it.

And what if we also foster rescue cats and want to home a greyhound? What do we need to do to train our hound to accept all different cats and not chase or harm them?
